The Ethnic Paris Cookbook - I Can't Afford First Class, so I'm Giving You a Cookbook Instead

The Ethnic Paris Cookbook
The Short: Leave a comment to play and possibly win The Ethnic Paris Cookbook.

The Long: I can't afford an International First Class ticket. It's some ricockulous price like $14,000 round-trip. That's, oh, about $13,900 over my budget.

And I wouldn't dream of subjecting you to the torture of Coach with the plebes, so you'll just have to (possibly, if you win) experience gay Paree at home with The Ethnic Paris Cookbook.

But be not ye fooled, oh ye of foolish faith. There is not one, no not one, single recipe for French bread, French toast, or French fries in the book, for do you not know how to read? The title of the cookbook is The Ethnic Paris Cookbook, which means that it is full of recipes from chefs and restaurants that are ethnic to Paris - Moroccan, Asian, Southeast Asian, African, and Middle Eastern. Strangely enough, there are no Korean recipes in the book. What, Paris too good for my people? Huh?! Yeah, probably.

I love the book. You may be wondering why, then, I am giving it away. Maybe I don't deserve love. Maybe if you love something, you set it free. Maybe I already made something from the book and now I don't need it anymore because I photocopied the recipe. (I checked. It's legal. Trust me.) I'll write in a future post about the bun I made, and by "bun," I mean "bun," not "bun," if you know what I mean.

No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited. Winner need not be present to receive book. That's the wonder of the US Postal Service. However, in order to be legible, you must write in all block letters and promise that if you win, you will make at least one dish from the book and either 1) blog about it if you're a blogger, even if you're not necessarily a food blogger (I'm not a food blogger either, but that's never stopped me from mentioning a muffin), or 2) tell me about it via email or IM if you don't have a blog because that's all I really want in this life. Just a little acknowledgment, appreciation, and re-speck, okay? Is that so much to ask?!?!

Of course, I have no way of knowing what you actually do with the cookbook behind closed aprons. You could lie and tell me you made something, but trust me *singsong voice* I will find out. I've been mercilessly cheated on before and I've seen lots of movies, so don't think I am above putting put some teeny tiny invisible camera between the pages of the book to watch you. I S-W-E-A-R (that's "promise" for those of you who can't spell) that if you betray me, I will lose 30 pounds just so I can crawl through the Internet to your kitchen and use a citrus reamer on you in ways that wouldn't be considered sexy.

Okay! So now that we've gotten the pleasantries out of the way...

Leave a comment on this post. It doesn't really matter what you say, as no special considerations will be given to particularly eloquent or witty remarks, though I can't say that I wouldn't give special consideration to love letters addressed to me.

When the time comes, and baby, it will come, I'll (randomly) select a commenter and express my utter love for the winner in a post. Don't ask me when the time will be. I don't know. It just has to "happen." You can't put a deadline on love, you know.

FOR TOO LONG NOW, I HAVE BEEN PROMISING MY GIRLFRIEND THAT I WOULD COOK DINNER FOR HER. WE LIVE TOGETHER, AND SHE COOKS ALL THE TIME, SO IT IS ABOUT TIME I STEPPED UP.

AND WHAT COULD BE MORE ROMANTIC THAN FRENCH, ESPECIALLY WITH A MIDDLE EASTERN/MOROCCAN TWIST, SINCE SHE LOVES THOSE CUISINES? THIS SOUNDS LIKE A WIN-WIN-WIN, ESPECIALLY SINCE I WILL DELIGHT IN TELLING YOU THE WHOLE STORY (WELL, AT LEAST THE PG-13 STORY), WITH COMPLETE PERMISSION TO BROADCAST IT TO THE WORLD.

NOT ONLY THAT, BUT WHEN LAUREN AND I DO GET TO PARIS (ON FIRST CLASS, OF COURSE, SINCE THE CONCORDE IS NO MORE), YOU WILL BE ONE OF THE FIRST TO HEAR ABOUT IT. THERE WILL BE FLICKR PICTURES IN YOUR HONOR. ADD ANOTHER WIN TO THE WIN-WIN-WIN.

Sarah, if I win this book, I intend to make something from it because I hella (remember that norcal term?) lied to my wife that I was a good cook. As it turns out, I have only made one meal, a very runny lasagna with a really good salad I tossed myself. You would help me restore balance in the universe by letting me reverse my deception.

I am in love with this idea, what a cool, novel book. I am working on a cookbook of my own at the moment (www.sipsnapsavor.blogspot.com) where my photographer boyfriend and I eat dinner at random people's houses and snap their picture, drink wine and collect family recipes en route.

But this. THIS - cookbook is the underbelly of genre's of France, you never see.

Keep on keeping on, sister. Where can we buy this book? I'd love to host a dinner with recipes from this book.

Cheers,
Mimi

Ethnic Paris? Considering I went to Jewish Montreal - I'm in!

Every cuisine is affected by the land it is cooked in, even just a bit.

This would be SUCH fun to play with, in my white/armenian/korean/latino section of Los Angeles!

Is it in english and does it include precise measurements? My German MIL recently sent us a cookbook and I was so excited until I realized that they don't measure things very well over there. It just says a "dose" of a spice or a "can" of tomatoes without mentioning size. My excitement turned to disappointment. So I would love to have this cookbook and try some real ethnic European food. :)

Hi Sarah
While looking for a new beer can I stumbled on your site, (don't ask) that is the great thing about the internet. Your blog said you don't like beer (about Lazy Days Ale from 2006.) My comment is try some of the Belgian Double Ales, my favorite is Ommegang Abbey Ale and really taste it. Brewed with candy sugar it is very sweet and sometimes each bottle in a six pack tastes different.
People don't understand that beer is much like wine in that the style is what is what is important. Find yourself a Belgium double ale. You won't be disappointed.

CAN I HAVE THIS BOOK, PLEASE? I AM SO POOR THAT THE MAJORITY OF MY "COOKBOOKS" ARE RECIPES THAT I HAVE PRINTED OFF THE INTERNET AND STAPLED TOGETHER LIKE A COMMON HOBO. THAT IS JUST SAD. I WILL ABSOLUTELY BLOG ABOUT WHATEVER I MAKE, AND THEN I'LL GIVE YOU A SHOUT-OUT FOR ALL 12 OF MY READERS TO SEE.

11:39 PM

I absolutely love cookbooks. They are the fusion of pretty much the two greatest things of all time, cooking and reading. I have to get most of my recipes off the internet, thanks to my broke-ness and shortage of books, but it's like reading a newspaper or a novel online... just not the same. And getting sauces all over your keyboard is generally not as charming as staining a cookbook page.

So. Pick me!
